We’ll kick off the program by welcoming you to Boston at the Renaissance Boston Seaport Hotel. After checking in at registration, a shuttle will take us to Cytiva’s Marlborough site for a guided tour and an introduction to Cytiva Fast Trak™ bioprocessing and manufacturing solutions.
Following the site visit, we’ll return to the hotel for a welcome reception in the lounge, featuring our first poster session.

Group leader DSP, Numab Therapeutics AG
Bastian Franke works at Numab Therapeutics AG as a group leader in downstream processing and leads a team of research associates responsible for the manufacturing of multispecific antibody-based therapeutics, process development and technical transfer to C(D)MOs, as well as implementation of automated and novel purification workflows.
Prior to Numab he gained first industry experience at DSM as a scientist in downstream processing after a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Basel, Switzerland, where he developed novel isotopic labelling techniques for NMR applications and automated multicolumn purification schemes in collaboration with Cytiva. Bastian Franke received his Ph.D. in structural biology from the University of Queensland, Australia.

Jacob McPhail, PhD, is a molecular and cell biologist at the UCSF Institute for Neurodegenerative Diseases, where he leads research into the mechanisms of protein misfolding and prion propagation in neurodegenerative diseases. His work supports the development of drug discovery assays targeting these disorders.
Previously, Jacob led R&D at StressMarq Biosciences, advancing commercial reagents for Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s research. He holds a PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Victoria, where he specialized in kinase biology and drug development. Jacob brings deep expertise in structural biology, mass spectrometry, and translational neuroscience research.
Principal Scientist, Gilead
Ramsay Macdonald, Ph.D. is a Principal Scientist at Gilead Sciences, where he leverages his expertise in protein science, biochemical assays, and structural biology to advance therapeutic discovery. With over a decade of experience spanning roles at Soteria Biotherapeutics, Amgen, and academic research at UCLA, Ramsay brings deep insight into recombinant protein expression, purification, and structure-based design.
He earned his Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Biophysics, and Molecular Biology from the University of California, Los Angeles, and holds a B.S. in Biochemistry from the University of Michigan. Ramsay recently spoke at Cytiva’s ÄKTA User Day in South San Francisco and returns to share further insights with the Cambridge community.
